After days of tasting and scoring samples submitted from all over the country, a panel of international and Ethiopian judges selected the lots of very highest quality. These lots will be offered via internet auction in late July as part of the 2008 Ethiopia Limited Coffee Auction.

“We always expect to find excellent coffee in Ethiopia, the motherland of arabica coffee,” said Willem Boot, organizer and head judge for the competition. “But we were pleasantly surprised at the outstanding quality of the lots submitted. There were some real gems.”

Winning coffees included 13 fully washed coffees, and 9 sundried naturals, including the overall winner, the Korate Sidamo from SMS PLC. The top scoring washed coffee was from Lensemo Lamisso, a micro-producer in the Aleta Wondo area of Sidamo.

All coffees selected for the internet auction scored 85 or above with the judges, who came to participate in the panel from Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.
